The story of how I was this ][ close to getting a bean & chicharrone burrito (w/red AND green) for lunch today:
Last Thursday morning, B made me a delicious salad for lunch, as per usual. Unbeknownst to me, he did not put onions in it. He made his special & delicious creamy yogurt dressing, and gave me some fresh strawberries for my fruit. I ask him to always leave the salad undressed so I can put the quantity of dressing I like, which may vary depending on the day I'm having.
But Thursday I was wanting a breakfast burrito. The craving for a breakfast burrito cannot be sated by anything other than a breakfast burrito. It's a basic fact of life. HOWEVER, I was broke. SO, I planted the seed in the office, which is full of New Mexican women, some of traditional build like me, who also cannot resist the siren call of the breakfast burrito. What was so audacious about my behavior is that not only did I want someone else to go get a burrito for me, I required that they pay for it as well!!
After much deliberation and discussing the pros and cons of various locations, the orders were placed and the courier dispatched. It was my coworker J, who knows the owner of the place everyone decided on. But the discussion phase of the project had really taken a lot of time, so it was close to 11am by the time she returned with my chorizo, egg, & red chile burrito. I won't bore anyone with the details of how delicious that burrito was. The important point is that I ate so late, I really wasn't hungry for my lunch.
We were going to my mom's for dinner that night, so I left my lunch at work so I could eat it the next day.
Friday dawned, the crappy end of a craptastic week that had started with me practically blowing a fuse (back on Monday) over the actions of one of my coworkers. Old dogs only know their normal old lying manipulating and bitchy tricks, so why try to help them learn to whistle?? (I think I might be mixing folksy idioms here....not sure.) Our project on Friday was to move a bunch of boxes from our old office to our new/temporary office. That's right, I left my Senior Admin Assistant position to become a mover!! Oh..wait...NO I DIDN'T.
After the crappy move morning in what was the hottest day of the week so far, we went out to lunch. Ahhh....see what happened? I left my salad for Friday, and like most payday Fridays, I ate lunch "OUT." Then, we had plans after work to go straight to a friend's house for drinks/snacks. So if I brought my lunch "home" it would sit in the heat in the car and definitely be ruint. I thought it prudent to leave it at work, "just in case."
Last night we worked out the deal. B would not make a new lunch for me today, but if the one I had at work wasn't edible, he would bring me some lunch. He cautioned me that it had to actually be inedible and that I musn't dissemble, because he is a busy man and Mondays are his busiest day. So I told him he should come in with me and we can check it together. (I honestly thought it would be no good and that my burrito plan was golden...)
THE SALAD WAS COMPLETELY FINE. The strawberries smell delightful, the dressing is perfect, the salad is crisp and fresh smelling. It was the no onions that did the trick, I think. As my kind husband sensed my disappointment, he said, "we can have those burritos some time this week."
And the clouds parted, and rays of sunshine poured down, illuminating the conference/lunch room. And the angels sang of the chicharrones with refritos and red + green chile to come. It's my soul food, I can't help it!
